'' Power plants, buildings, roadways, bridges, water supply systems, wastewater systems, ocean and estuarine structures - these make up the infrastructure of modern life and civil engineers help create them. Increasingly, civil engineers also are involved in developing less traditional structures and systems, such as mechanical prostheses and space vehicles.
EPPs Civil Engineering program covers the broad range of scientific and technological knowledge civil engineers must master, as well as environmental, social, and economic issues. It emphasizes four focus areas: Structural Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, and General Civil Engineering. Students may choose a program in any of these areas. Fully equipped laboratories for structures and structural dynamics, soil mechanics, fluid mechanics, and water-wave mechanics (with supporting computational facilities) are available for both demonstrations and students independent study. Highlights include:
