The one-day Boris Text and Title Animation Course explores the title animation and graphic tools used in Boris RED and GRAFFITI software. GRAFFITI is a resolution-independent, vector-based 2D/3D title effects and animation plug-in application for non-linear editing systems. RED is a 3D compositing, title animation, and special effects plug-in for non-linear editing systems. RED includes all the features of GRAFFITI and adds functionality including vector paint and rotoscoping, motion tracking and image stabilization, time filters and the ability to import Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator files with layers. Both products work as a plug-in application for non-linear editing systems including Avid, Media 100, Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro. FX and RED share a common user interface. For comprehensive training, RED users would also want to take the Boris Effects, Filters and Compositing Course.

Presentation method
Students will become familiar with the user interface through a combination of instructor-led discussion and in-class exercises. Hands-on exercises let students create effects to achieve real-world results. Class size is limited to six people. During hands-on practice there are no more than two students per machine.

Student Materials
Student materials contain information necessary for the class, including the Student Guide, and supplemental reference materials as well as a Training CD containing all the media required to complete the exercises. Students can continue the exercises at home, using the Boris KeyFramer that is included on the CD. The Boris KeyFramer is a standalone application designed to create Boris effects offline using any computer. The KeyFramer can be duplicated and distributed free of charge. The KeyFramer is a cross-platform application. Actual effect rendering requires a host application with the Boris plug-in installed.

Goals
Understand Boris GRAFFITI and RED software terms and concepts.
Independently create a variety of text effects using the software interface, including menus dialog boxes, tools and buttons.

Identify and execute basic steps for inputting information into the system and for outputting finished effects.
