'' This masters course in Knowledge Management is designed to provide you with the broad range knowledge and technical skills required in the field of knowledge management. The course also prepares you for careers in other areas such as the creative industries and for management roles in the public or private sector.

The management of the intellectual capital of the organisation has become increasingly important in business and therefore there is a growing need for individuals who have the appropriate training and experience in the knowledge management functions such as strategic planning, decision-making and forecasting.

A placement opportunity is also part of the course. We have establised links with professional organisations and, because of these, the Aberdeen Business School Placement Office consistently finds suitable placements (4 weeks) for our students.

The student on this programme will gain the following:

an understanding of the principles underpinning Knowledge Management
an appreciation of the role of both technology and organisational culture in the development and application of a Knowledge Management strategy
ability to apply key theories of Knowledge Management in a variety of organisational contexts and evaluating the relevance of Knowledge Management for strategic advantage
ability to develop a Knowledge Management strategy, including how to - map knowledge use and exchange - conduct a knowledge audit - utilise techniques such as storytelling and modelling to determine individuals’ tacit and explicit knowledge
skills to manage human resources to maximise the group potential and design of presentations in written, oral and electronic forms

Course Benefits
The course is designed to provide you with the skill set of relevant academic knowledge and practical skills expected in the field of knowledge management today. It seeks to develop your understanding of ways in which intellectual capital is created, shared and built upon and there is a particular emphasis on the role of knowledge in supporting corporate strategy. Specific aims of the course are:

to acquire a comprehensive and contemporary understanding of knowledge management
to gain a clear and confident understanding of the theoretical and contemporary issues relevant to knowledge management
to enhance oral and written presentation skills as well as group interaction skills including negotiation
to improve research and information retrieval abilities
to encourage autonomous working practice including development of and completion of a subject specific research proposal
One of the positive aspects of this course is its flexibility of study. From Autumn 2007, the course will be available by Online Study only, through the university Virtual Campus.
