'' Aberdeen Business School at The Robert Gordon University has launched a new and unique one year online course in Oil and Gas Law. The course was initiated in September 2006 and from 2007 you will be able to study it at Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) and at Masters (MSc/LLM) level.

The Oil and Gas Law programme is a further addition to the Department of Law’s successful portfolio of commercial and professional courses on which we have over 200 students from around the globe.

Course Aims and Benefits
The course is aimed at oil and gas professionals from any jurisdiction and is ideal for the professional in the oil and gas industry who has to deal with any legal issues. Masters level education is a very highly regarded asset in any professional sector.

The oil and gas industry is no exception to that and this qualification is a key to career advancement. There is an increasing need for knowledge of the legal technicalities that affect the oil industry today as has been noted in an article in The Independent (June 27th, 2006). Another article in Higher Education and Research Opportunities in the United Kingdon (HERO) also highlights the increasing need for this type of training in order to "....deal with complex oil- and gas-related issues, particularly contractual issues" and that Oil and Gas Law provides "a niche legal course with a strong practical edge."

On the course, the emphasis will be on both UK law (semester 1), which influences the law in many key oil and gas jurisdictions, and UK and international aspects of oil and gas law (semester 2). The course is designed for non-lawyers and lawyers alike and will consist of four modules, two per semester.

The oil and gas law materials in semester two are to be prepared and delivered by specialist oil and gas industry lawyers, both in the UK sector and abroad, with guidance from academics in the Department of Law. Since Aberdeen is the energy capital of Europe, there is no shortage of such expertise on our doorstep.
