'' This MSc programme is designed for high-calibre and ambitious graduates with a relevant background seeking to develop a successful career as finance professionals. It recognises that in today’s rapidly changing markets high level finance knowledge and expertise need to be combined with management skills to ensure our MSc graduates in finance are well placed for a successful and fulfilling future career.

Specifically, the MSc in Finance and Management aims to provide students with a rigorous understanding of the main areas of finance and investment together with a practical knowledge of key management concepts and skills. In particular, it draws on the latest thinking, in terms of academic developments and research, as well as the practical application of these ideas. The objective is to provide an excellent springboard for an exciting career in financial services internationally in leading investment banks, investment management, financial consultancy, corporate finance, treasury management or accounting, or in academia.

The programme is privileged to have a high level advisory board comprising senior practitioners from the financial services industry with the brief to ensure the practical relevance of the programme and that it meets industry needs as well as academic standards.

Because of the close links the School has with the major providers of financial services there is the opportunity for students to carry out their theses as interns in a leading international investment bank or other financial institution thereby providing industry relevant practical experience. In addition, the MSc is designed to cover much of the syllabus of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification run by the Association of Investment Management Research, and students are encouraged to sit the first part of this international and industry-recognised qualification during their time at Cranfield, adding to their employment prospects at the end of the programme. In the June 2006 exam four of our eight students who sat passed. This pass rate compares favourably with the global rate of 40%. The MSc also benefits from its close links with the School’s very active PhD programme in finance and management with over 100 PhD scholars.

The MSc will be taught by a team, the majority of which are full professors, with extensive industry knowledge and an international reputation for their research and teaching in finance and management. Teaching by the academic faculty is complemented by eminent financial practitioners to ensure the practical relevance of the degree.

The ACT Prize, sponsored by the prestigious Association of Corporate Treasurers will be awarded to the best performing student on the programme.

As part of the MSc you will be carrying out research for your thesis in the summer. Our best students may be able to carry out this research on company-sponsored projects. In 2004 to 2006 some projects were sponsored by the Bank of New York, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, IFX Markets, Rothchilds, State Street, UK National Audit Office, UBS Warburg, Panmure Gordon, Doughty Hanson, Hermes Pensions Management and Alliance & Leicester, Bear Stearns and Panmure Gordon.

Students enjoy an active social life and those of you with sporting interests are well catered for both on and off campus.
