Training Course:

Nursing

School/Trainer:

Dublin City University
Dublin, Ireland

Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced

Course Description:

'' The purpose of this postgraduate programme in nursing and/or health care practice is to support practitionersspecialist preparation in discovering professional and practice knowledge through facilitated work-based learning. Work-based learning (WBL) is an approach to education that supports practitionersdevelopment to think analytically at an advanced level and therefore evaluate their practice at specialist and advanced level. The two approaches to WBL on this programme are work related (WRL) and work located learning (WLL). Participants will engage in a balanced programme with part of their learning taking place away from though related to their practice area and part taking place in practice. Specific modules will address these approaches.
Programme Description:
The School of Nursing in association with service partners and professional bodies have developed a new taught postgraduate education programme. The flexibility of this programme and model of delivery allows for health care professionals from a range of disciplines and specified areas of practice to complete their studies within one framework.
Programme Structure:
The Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing/Health Care Practice will normally be taken as a part-time course over eighteen months with the option of completing the M.Sc. in two years. Other flexible approaches are possible: an accelerated programme of study leading to a Graduate Diploma in one year or students can take a longer term modular approach to completion of either award within five years. The nursing practice and health care practice programmes will have the same academic structure and content with the student choosing the award title upon commencement. Participants will identify the area of practice they wish to develop through completion of this programme and focus on this area throughout. Course transcripts will specify the area of practice for each participant. The Graduate Diploma consists of six 10 credit modules normally taken over three semesters and the M.Sc. will entail a dissertation module (15 credits) taken in the fourth semester. Five modules will be core with participants choosing one optional module relevant to the focus of their study.
