Training Course:

Edinburgh MBA

School/Trainer:

University of Edinburgh
Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced

Course Description:

'' The main objectives of the programme are:

to give an understanding of the behaviour, form and performance of organisations
to develop the ability to appreciate strategic issues and to formulate long term policies
to provide a basic knowledge of a wide range of management issues and techniques plus a specialised knowledge in many functional areas
to provide a solid basis for continual skills development
to balance academic and personal development
How do these objectives translate into benefits for those undertaking the Edinburgh MBA?

Benefits
The Edinburgh MBA provides:

the basis for career enhancement and/or conversion
the necessary skills and knowledge to progress to higher level management positions
the skills to analyse critically the latest management ideas and policies in order to identify those which are merely rhetoric or fads
a solid basis in the key management disciplines and allows detailed expertise to be developed across a range of subjects, in turn allowing a unique insight into management decision making
the opportunity to learn, in an exciting and stimulating environment, not only the qualitative and analytical management techniques and competencies but also to learn more about yourself and your own potential
the opportunity to learn from highly qualified staff and, just as importantly, from over 200 fellow MBA students

Faculty
The Management School’s international student body is supported by 60+ teaching staff drawn from 16 different countries. Many are active in industry-based research and consultancy for both commercial organisations and government bodies. This broad-based research work feeds into the quality of the teaching, thus directly benefiting course participants.

The Business School Network
The Alumni, Careers and Corporate Relations Network (ACCORN) provides career management and personal development as well as co-ordinating the School’s external relationships. This network includes leading business figures who are regular contributors to individual courses, as well as forming the basis of the visiting speakers programme. Several leading figures are also appointed as visiting Faculty members, such as Sir David Tweedie, Chairman of the International Accounting Standards Board. Their teaching and informal contact with students provides direct insight into current management and business practice.

The School’s numerous research centres are all contributors to local, national and international organisations, and include leading business figures as well as academics in their work. The School regularly organises and plays host to national and international conferences.

Perhaps the most important aspect of the School’s knowledge network is the alumni body. Alumni are encouraged to integrate into the life of the School in many ways including acting as advisors or returning as speakers. Contact between students and alumni within specific companies and industry sectors is facilitated for course projects, dissertation research or career advice. Students and prospective students can learn about the successes of alumni in the MBA alumni magazine, Aluminate, and will automatically become members of the 3,500-strong alumni community upon graduation.

The Network plans and delivers the Career & Personal Development Programme which forms part of the Edinburgh MBA. This programme is designed to help students develop and attain realistic career goals, refine their skills-based competencies, as well as assisting organisations to recruit Edinburgh students.
