Course Description:

'' The first two semesters are taken alongside the Full-time programme, sharing the same courses, project work, and career and personal development activities. After the Spring Vacation, students on the International Programme go to our partner universities overseas and then complete their work placement and dissertations.

Semester 1, which runs from September through December, commences with a comprehensive induction week for study and career orientation. This leads into the eight Core Courses which are designed to provide a grounding in the basic disciplines of management, creating a platform on which the remainder of the course is built. The Core Courses comprise:

Accounting
Statistics
Ethics
Economic Behaviour
Finance
Organisational Studies
Marketing
Operations Management
These lead into major group projects which require the application of the ideas covered in the courses to a real business situation.

During Semester 2a, which runs from January through March, all students take a required course called "Strategic Management", along with a minimum of three options. The Options may be chosen from the list Of ‘Full term (10 week) Options�available during the day or from the ’Evening Options�

During Semester 2b, students will take the equivalent of a full term’s work in our partner universities overseas, Copenhagen Business School (CBS), Escuela de Alta Direction y Administration (EADA) in Barcelona, École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (ENPC) in Paris or Shanghai, Fisher College at Ohio State University in Columbus, or Schulich School of Business, York University; this may include study visits that are part of those programmes. Courses offered and destinations available for visits will vary from year to year. In particular there will be limits on numbers attending certain institutions, courses or visits. In all cases tuition is included in the fee, but students are responsible for their own travel and living expenses. In all cases tuition is in English.

During Summer and Autumn, which runs from July through December, students complete a work placement with a company outside their country of origin, and prepare a dissertation of about 15,000 words that is submitted in December. The Placement Officer will be in touch with both our Alumni and a wide range of companies in order to give assistance in finding a placement. This is an exciting opportunity to work for a company with the support of a company mentor plus an academic advisor.

During your time at Edinburgh, a comprehensive programme of career and personal development runs in parallel with each semester of academic activity. This starts with a diagnostic phase, to tailor course requirements to your needs, and covers everything from influential communication; problem solving and team work to key issues affecting leadership and self-promotion. An interesting and popular dimension of the self-development side of the programme are the Outdoor Development Weekends, run on the banks of Loch Tay and available to all students.
