Training Course:E-CommerceSchool/Trainer:HEC Montréal Business school Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' Beyond the dotcoms boom and bust, one has to recognize that e-business has had a vertiginous evolution in the last decade. The majority of the markets and industries saw or will see during the next years the rules of competition which govern them being deeply modified by the tidal wave of the electronic business. Information technologies and the Internet make it possible to transform in-depth how things are done inside the firms as well as between them. The transformation of the value chain, the creation of company-networks, the reduction in transaction costs between companies and the companies and the consumers, the creation of electronic auctions and marketplaces are the many new phenomena that will affect business. The benefits that new technologies can generate are such that companies will have to harness them in order to preserve their competitive advantage. E-commerce is not only transforming how business is conducted, but it also has the potential to fundamentally change our society. One only has to look at such diverse industries, such as publishing, banking, recording, travel services, lottery, or insurance to understand the impact that e-commerce has already had on our lives.
In this course, we shall take the point of view that, although the Internet and information technologies has changed and will profoundly change business, organizations and society, it does change the fundamentals of business strategic analysis. This course on e-commerce must be seen as a great opportunity to explore and revisit these fundamentals in light of the great challenges presented by massive technological changes. The basic principle is that firms in order to survive and make profit need to create value for customers and be in a strong enough position in the marketplace to capture part of the value created. So the main question put before us is: how can the new technology be harnessed to create and capture new value? The answers are not obvious, but once we explore some successful (and unsuccessful) cases we can begin to understand all the true potential of e-commerce.
