Course Description:
'' Mobile data communications are of global and international significance, especially in developing areas of the world where traditional landline infrastructures are limited. The ability to provide mobile users with services based upon their current location is an important and exciting innovation. This course has been developed to equip you with the diverse range of skills and knowledge required to plan, develop and evaluate location-based services. It covers the full range of hardware, software and application technologies required for successful implementation, and will provide you with the ability to plan and design a system architecture suitable for developing location-based services for a range of applications and target audiences.
What you will study
You will study the principles of geographical information and mobile positioning systems. You will gain specialised knowledge and skills in selected areas of advanced networking, mobile data communications and web services. You will cover the legal, social and ethical obligations and implications of professional practice. In addition you will gain a disciplined engineering approach and sound practice competence in the specification, design and implementation of software for computer-based systems. The modules are regularly updated to ensure quality and relevance to industry. The Research Methods module prepares you for work on your project/dissertation.
Assessment
Coursework and/or exams; research project/dissertation (MSc).
