Course Description:

'' Known in some institutions as the Common Professional Examination (CPE), the Kingston Graduate Diploma in Law will give you a sound grounding in the fundamental principles governing many areas of law. It is also ideal if you are keen to develop the skills of legal reasoning and to understand the language of the law.

This diploma is of particular relevance if you are interested in pursuing a career in law but do not have an undergraduate law degree. A good understanding of law and legal reasoning is also an invaluable asset in other fields in which you may already have considerable expertise.

What you will study
After an induction programme introducing you to the Law School and the expectations and ethos of the course, you will go on to study the Foundations of Legal Knowledge, which cover the basic principles of law: contract law; public law; the law governing civil wrongs; the rights and interests over land and property; criminal law; the principles of equity and the requirements of trusts; and the law of the European Union. You will also develop an understanding of the English legal system and the legal skills required to be a lawyer. You will have the opportunity to study an area of law outside these foundation subjects by undertaking a research project chosen from a very wide choice of legal subjects.

To become a solicitor you would continue your law education by completing a Legal Practice course, or the Bar Vocational course if you would like to become a barrister.
