Course Description:

'' If you are interested in popular music and would like to explore the subject through performance, composition and/or musicology, this course is ideal. Using a variety of research methods, you will have the opportunity of producing a major project, which can be presented as text and/or sound recordings of, or about, the performance,composition or theoretical aspects of popular music.

What you will study
You will explore the theoretical concepts used in the analysis of contemporary popular music through performance and production in a variety of cultural contexts. You will also consider how contemporary practice, involving improvisation, ensemble, interdisciplinary collaboration, mixed and multimedia forms, are contributing to the emergence of new theoretical ideas in popular music. In addition, you will produce a major project, which can take the form of a performance and written paper, a folio of compositions plus a written paper, or a dissertation. You have the opportunity to widen your music knowledge by choosing two extra modules from an extensive range of options.
