Course Description:
'' The MSc in Money, Banking and Finance is a challenging new programme which blends economic theory, advanced quantitative methods with analysis of financial markets and discussion of the institutional framework of the money and banking sectors.
The programme has been designed to give graduates in economics, accounting or related subjects the skills, knowledge and technical capabilities needed for careers in the banking and financial sectors. Strong quantitative skills are essential, and will be further developed as you apply these skills to analysing issues and problems. In addition, the programme provides an excellent preparation for a PhD application.
The programme is based in the Department of Economics but is taught jointly with the Department of Accounting and Finance. This allows the programme to reflect the research strengths of both departments.
The first two terms are devoted to taught modules, to give you a strong grounding in key areas of theory and practice. In the third term and over the summer months you complete a dissertation which allows you to analyse a research theme in depth and apply the theoretical and statistical skills developed in the taught component of the programme.
Students are drawn from a variety of backgrounds but must have a good basic knowledge of economics and statistics. Some students are asked to attend a four-week refresher course in economics and statistics in September before the start of the programme.
