Course Description:

'' Developing global leaders
IMPM is so called because it is about the practice of managing. Professor Henry Mintzberg (IMPM’s founding Chair and member of its distinguished faculty, pictured on the left) emphasises this point because he believes that management is a practice, where art, science and craft all meet.

The IMPM set out seven years ago to change the face of executive education, by giving more emphasis to:

- the complexity of real managerial and organisational problems, rather than specialised knowledge (marketing, finance etc)
- learning, rather than teaching
- the context in which people can best learn about leadership and the practices of managing
- reflection on self and organisation leading to deep learning and insight, more than intense activity (what the Americans call ’boot camp’)

The IMPM is a co-operative venture between a number of highly ranked business schools operating in six countries across the world: the UK, Canada, France, India, Japan and Korea. The main partners are:

INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France
Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, India
A group of academics from three universities in Japan: Hitotsubashi (Tokyo), Kobe, and the Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST, Ishikawa).
Key benefits of the IMPM include:
Participants study and make recommendations on important problems and issues from within their organisation, rather than general case studies, supported by their peers on the programme and expert faculty.
The context for learning moves around the world and between the business schools, capitalising on the opportunities for learning presented by each location, and drawing on the particular strengths of each partner school.
Most participants choose to register for a Masters degree at either Lancaster or McGill.
