Executive MBA

School/Trainer:

London Business School
London, United Kingdom

Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced

Course Description:

'' Developing new knowledge, reflecting on experience, reaching a new understanding in less than two years.

Carried out over a maximum of 20 months, the Executive MBA programme comprises six key elements:

core courses are taken in the first year and cover a wide range of disciplines and subjects
choose up to eight elective courses from the School´s portfolio of more than 80 courses
the management report enables you to integrate what you have learned on the Executive MBA and apply it to an issue concerning your organisation
enhance your understanding of management challenges across global boundaries with the international assignment
the optional skills portfolio offers a range of beneficial skills workshops

The programme concludes with a final three-day block where students reflect on the programme, leverage the value of their degree and look forward to becoming part of London Business School´s international 24,500-strong alumni network.

Please note you will need to attend the School for no more than 37 working days to undertake core work.

Core courses

Core courses are taken in the first year of the programme with class attendance on Fridays and Saturdays of alternate weeks. This arrangement allows you to immerse yourself in your studies, and the interaction between faculty and class, while applying your learning immediately to your organisation. The fact that you and your organisation are both `giving up´ one of your days also helps to create an equal partnership.

The core courses provide you with a thorough grounding in general business management. The programme begins with a residential week dedicated to examining leadership, by analysing and improving your team working skills, self-awareness and reflection, and to understanding general management, which will help you to contextualise the Executive MBA in direct reference to your own career.

The core courses, the remainder of which are taught in the alternate Fridays and Saturdays format, will provide you with the opportunity to reflect upon and evaluate your experience and lead you to develop global business capabilities, which we define as the skills and expertise to operate as a successful leader anywhere in the world.

Elective Courses

Choose up to eight elective courses from a diverse range of subjects and disciplines in the second year. Elective courses typically consist of one three-hour class per week for ten weeks. Participants who commute long distances or have less flexibility in their work schedule may prefer to attend electives scheduled in block week and/or weekend formats.

Management Report

The management report, supervised by faculty, enables you to integrate what you have learned on the Executive MBA and to apply it to an issue concerning your organisation. It gives you an opportunity to provide a substantial, tangible benefit to your sponsor, alongside the ongoing benefits of applying the knowledge acquired from the programme to your responsibilities at work. It will also demonstrate your ability to integrate theory and practice and to effectively use the knowledge and tools introduced on the programme. The management report is a major piece of around 7,500 words and is a fundamental part of qualifying for your MBA.

International Assignment

The international assignment offers the opportunity to test and apply skills outside your own organisation and for many, in a country and culture outside of your immediate experience, and enhance your cross-cultural experience and understanding.

The focus will be on regions of specific economic interest, and underpinned by a rigorous academic project. Assignments are led by two faculty members, who provide the academic content and assignments to ensure that the learning experience is grounded in the frameworks and theories of management learnt at London Business School and applied to a genuine business issue.

Students work in teams to investigate business practices, benchmark and conduct analyses within multinational corporations, local companies and governmental organisations.

The assignments provide an excellent learning opportunity for students as well as genuine benefit to companies. Executive MBA students embark upon exciting and insightful assignments to destinations, which in the past have included Warsaw, Amsterdam, Dusseldorf and Kiev, Mumbai and Bangalore, Beijing, Shanghai and Johannesburg.

Students embark upon one international assignment as part of their core study, and have the option to select another destination as one of their elective choices during the completion of the programme.
