Loughborough University Business School
Loughborough, Leicestershire, United Kingdom

Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced

Course Description:

'' The Loughborough MBA delivers practical knowledge and skills that can be applied directly and immediately to your work environment, as well as relevant concepts and theories that enhance your understanding of management and business environments.

Class discussions, individual effort, teamwork and the esprit de corps generated by endeavour and aspiration serve to cultivate friendships that transcend the programme’s duration. Learning and the process by which it occurs are at the heart of the Loughborough MBA, and, as such, study can have both academic and social dimensions.

Core modules include:

Contemporary Management Issues: This course examines a range of five or six specific contemporary issues that are changing the face of management, and examines the significance to your organisation. Each topic is taught by an expert in the field.

Decision Support Systems: Explores the decision-making process and reviews the range of technologies, systems and modelling techniques that can be used to manage information and support decisions. It then examines the approaches used by organisations to successfully plan, develop and implement technology.

Business Economics: Provides an understanding of economic concepts and models appropriate to business decision making. You learn to use economic theory to explain and analyse the behaviour or consumers and organisations, and to select relevant economic concepts and apply them to real-life situations.

Marketing: You learn the principles of the marketing concept and the marketing mix and critically evaluate their usage in addressing marketing problems. There is also a focus on the processes by which a marketing strategy is developed.

Financial Management: This course enables you to understand, analyse and interpret financial information in order that they will be better able to ascertain the financial dimensions of the management process. More specifically, the module covers the scope of financial management and accounting, the objectives and processes o financial reporting, the role of management accounting and an introduction to financing issues.

Human Resource Management: This module tackles critical issues in the management of people, particularly from the perspective of day-to-day line management. Topics include culture and commitment, managing motivation and performance, and staff selection and assessment.

Electives include: Professional Development, E-Commerce Systems, Career Development and Management, Creative Problem Solving, Operations Management, Project Management, Professional Development, Business Ethics, Corporate Finance, Technology Commercialisation and Evaluation, Operations Management, International Management.

Summer before your final year:
Business Strategy & Change Management: This key module focuses on the changing nature of the practice and processes of strategic management. Designed to develop strategic analysis skills, the module concentrates on the development of strategic options and the management of change, as well as encouraging an openness to new ideas and the ability to search out and consider the range of options available in most situations. Because this module helps to amalgamate the various components of the MBA programme and reinforces the concept of management as an integrated and multidisciplinary activity, it is double-weighted.

As an alternative to this final module, you may attend the European Summer School for Advanced Management (ESSAM). This 10-day intensive programme, also double-weighted, affords you the chance to study at a top European university alongside MBA students from all over the globe. An additional fee is required for this option.

A programme handbook including a full academic year timetable is provided before the start of the programme.

Assessment
Assessment is by coursework, with a small number of examinations, plus an integrative project in your final year. Class participation is actively encouraged as interaction not only ensures you absorb the material adequately, but it also greatly enriches the overall experience and your cohort community.
