'' Every Healthcare professional in the course of their professional duties is required to manage risk �to patients, to their colleagues and, in some cases, risks that certain types of patient may present to the general public. In addition, as Healthcare systems become ever more complex the need for formalized Risk Management systems and structures requires that there are staff with the necessary skills and expertise to be able to lead and manage these activities at all levels. These courses are designed to meet those needs.

Who Will Benefit?
The Healthcare Risk Management programme is designed for:

those currently working in risk management in a healthcare context who wish to gain an appropriate qualification;
those wishing to move into a risk management post from another field within healthcare, e.g. nursing or human resource management;
those working in specialist risk management areas, e.g. clinical risk, health and safety, who wish to extend their expertise into a broader field of risk management.
The purpose of the programme is to provide education and training which broadens the participants�knowledge, increases their job competencies and develops professional potential.

Programme Structure
The Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma programmes are part-time and modular in structure, and involve a combination of one week short courses, self-study, and workbased assignments. Learning and assessment methods are tailored to take account of participants�circumstances and needs.

The Postgraduate Certificate will normally be completed within 12 months of parttime study and the Postgraduate Diploma within 18 months.

The Masters stage is completed by part-time research for a dissertation, usually based on a workrelated project. Candidates for the MA must attend three short courses in research methods and successfully complete their dissertation in 12 to 24 months.

Module 4: Health, Safety, Reputation & Marketplace Risks
Module 5: Infrastructure Risk and Strategy Development
Module 6: Research Methodology
Module 7: MA Research Project and Dissertation

For the Postgraduate Certificatein Healthcare Risks Management candidates must attend and successfully complete the assessed elements of modules 1, 2 and 3.

For the Postgraduate Diploma in Healthcare Risk Management candidates must attend and successfully complete the assessed elements of modules 1 to 6.

For the MA in Healthcare Risk Management candidates who have successfully achieved a passing standard for the Postgraduate Diploma may proceed to undertake a part-time research project within an area of Healthcare Risk Management.

Entry Requirements
As the course will be conducted at postgraduate level, potential candidates should:

hold a degree of a Higher Education Institution in the UK or Eire; or
have achieved the academic requirements for corporate membership of a British Chartered professional institution approved by the University for this purpose; or
hold another qualification approved by the University.
In practice, the University will adopt a flexible approach to admission requirements, the principal criterion being that a candidate can reasonably be expected to pursue the course successfully.
