Course Description:

'' Manchester Business School and the School of Mathematics at The University of Manchester have combined their academic strength and practical expertise to deliver the MSc Quantitative Finance and Financial Engineering.

This programme offers a good balance between mathematics and finance, and is designed so that you will find the mathematics element accessible. It is particularly suitable for students with a degree in Finance or Financial Economics or an equivalent training (see entry requirements ), as well as practical experience (non-compulsory) in finance, mathematics, or engineering usually via employment. It is also suited to those wishing to gain salary enhancements, or students wishing to pursue further and advanced studies in quantitative finance and financial engineering.

Module details
Typical compulsory and optional course units will include Foundations of Finance Theory; Stochastic Calculus; VBA/C++ with Financial Applications, Derivative Securities; International Macros and Global Capital Market; Martingales with Applications to Finance; Computational Finance; Financial Econometrics; Interest Rate Derivatives; Mathematical Modelling of Finance; Portfolio Investment; Credit Risk Measurement and Management.

For the dissertation, students will carry out an original piece of research on a subject relating to the programme. Our MSc dissertation topics are aligned with the research interests of leading financial institutions from the City of London and internationally. A number of dissertation topics are proposed by senior members of these organisations and if approved are supervised by our academic staff. Successful completion could require a number of consultations between the student and financial institution officers, leading to a final presentation of findings.
