Training Course:Accounting & BusinessSchool/Trainer:Manchester Metropolitan University Business School Manchester, United Kingdom
Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' This programme is aimed at individuals who have completed their professional accounting qualifications with a member organisation of The Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies.(CCAB), but as yet have not been admitted to full membership, perhaps because of experience requirements. They will wish to differentiate themselves in the employment market by studying at Masters level before gaining the necessary work experience to become a full member of their professional body. Individuals can broaden their business knowledge and skills by studying a choice of non accounting business disciplines at an advanced level, as well as developing their research skills before undertaking a dissertation in an area relevant to their professional discipline.
The business school is planning to develop opportunities for students on this programme, to opt to take an internship with a local or regional employer with the purpose of working on a research or consultancy project with the employer and using this as the basis for the dissertation, as well as gaining valuable work experience. To assist access to this award the division already offers ACCA Part 3 as a full time programme following on from our BA (Hons) Accounting & Finance award, and is planning a similar full time route for CIMA. This programme therefore offers advanced academic progression and qualification before seeking permanent work.
Assessment
Assessment in the taught units of the programme is through a combination of coursework, which could include group as well as individual project exercises, and examinations. The final stage of the Masters degree is assessed by a Dissertation of approximately 15,000 words.
Our Opinion
Our research amongst professional bodies, employer organisations and employers indicates to us that there is strong demand in the labour market for students with this type of qualification, which will complement the technical competences demonstrated by their professional accounting qualification and therefore assist the career prospects of the holder.
Career Development Opportunities
Individuals holding both professional and Masters qualifications are extremely well placed to take up relevant opportunities to gain the necessary practical experience and go on to forge rewarding careers in professional accountancy and finance disciplines, in a variety of industry sectors, such as national and international financial management and control, public sector finance, private practice and consultancy. In addition they will have a widely recognised foundation for broader careers in business and management.
