'' This Foundation Degree in Retail has been developed for students wishing to develop a career in retailing and the teaching and learning for this programme via a blended approach. Foundation degrees are distinct from most degree qualifications in that they integrate workplace competence into academic attainment. They are a stand alone qualification seek to prepare student for work. FdA’s carry 240 credits. Work-based learning is integral to the foundation degree. The workplace is considered to be a learning environment just as much as a lecture theatre.

The programme will be delivered through a mixture of residential workshops (1 day per unit) and e-learning.

All units have been content authored by academic staff and a full quality assurance process has been implemented in the development of the e-learning capability. A number of staff working on the e-authoring, have previously developed distance learning material and have been through e-learning programmes themselves.

There are three themes that will be threaded throughout the programme within the units:

Business Improvement
Customer Loyalty
Technology
Assessment
The programme is assessed by a balance of work-based assignments and examinations.
