School/Trainer:

Massey University
Auckland, Palmerston, Wellington, New Zealand

Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced

Course Description:

'' The Certificate TEAL is designed to be a flexible undergraduate qualification for those wishing to gain further knowledge in the field of teaching English as an additional language from a range of different background experiences. It is possible to study part-time and as an extramural student to fit in with family or employment commitments. Instead of graduating with the CertTEAL students may choose to transfer eligible papers into the BA, the Graduate Diploma in Adult Learning and Teaching (TEAL) or the BEd (TESOL). For enrolment you need to show evidence of a teaching qualification from an accredited New Zealand provider, or provide evidence that you have recent experience teaching English to speakers of other languages in a formal educational institution, or as a voluntary ESOL home tutor see:
http://www.esolht.org.nz/

Entry requirements
Students must have entrance to University and show evidence of teaching to gain admission into the certificate programme. For enrolment purposes students need to show evidence of holding a teaching qualification from an accredited New Zealand provider, or provide evidence that they have recent experience teaching English to speakers of other languages in a formal education institution, or as a voluntary ESOL home tutor (see http://www.esolht.org.nz/). Students should attach this verified documentation to a completed Admission with Equivalent Status application form and send this in with their enrolment application.

Access to, and regular teaching of, learners from a non-English speaking background is a requirement of some papers in this programme (check with the co-ordinator).

Credits and prior learning
If taken individually, some papers can be contributed to the Bachelor of Education or the Bachelor of Education (TESOL). The compulsory papers also form the endorsement in the Graduate Diploma in Adult Learning and Teaching (endorsed TEAL).
