'' For many students a Masters degree will be the highest academic qualification they will aspire to for their career needs. For some students it may be on the pathway to a doctoral degree.

Introduction
A one or two year degree which may be available part-time or full-time. Study is at an advanced level and most frequently involves taught papers and a research thesis. Students advancing to a Masters degree after a Bachelor degree with Honours from a New Zealand University may elect to do a one year degree by thesis only. International students may be required to undertake a diploma course in their intended major.

A master’s degree is normally completed after at least five years of full-time study; that is to say, a one-year master’s programme usually follows an undergraduate or honours degree programme of four years.

Admission requires at least a B average.

Reporting in person

Palmerston North
New internal students enrolling in postgraduate programmes for the first time should visit the Office of Postgraduate Studies, Science Tower B, Room 2.22 to confirm their enrolment between 26 February - 2 March 2007.
Students will be given an Application for Academic Approval of Postgraduate Programme (OGS 2) and will be directed to their Postgraduate Subject Advisor for approval of their programme. When the programme of study and OGS 2 have been finalised, forms must be returned to the Office of Postgraduate Studies for final confirmation and entry into the University database.

Students wishing to make a change to their previously approved programme of study are given an Application to Change Approved Postgraduate Programmes (OGS 3). This is completed in conjunction with the student’s supervisor(s) and the Institute Postgraduate Coordinator, before returning to the Office of Postgraduate Studies.

Albany
For students studying at Albany, enrolments will be processed on the Albany Campus and an OGS 2 must be submitted to the Office of Postgraduate Studies (Palmerston North Campus). OGS 2 forms can be obtained from the College of Sciences office on the Albany Campus.

Credits and prior learning

All applications for credit from incomplete and abandoned postgraduate qualifications to College of Sciences postgraduate qualifications are assessed individually. A credit application form is contained in the enrolment pack.
Papers may not be cross credited from a completed postgraduate qualification to a Massey University postgraduate qualification.
Note: The maximum transfer of credit into a Massey University postgraduate qualification is 25% of that qualification, eg a 120 credit PGDipSc may contain up to 30 credits from an incomplete postgraduate qualification elsewhere.
