We cover database system structure and function and computer network operations. Server programming skills will be studied which allow you to create online businesses. You’ll also cover issues of security and internet marketing.

Programme Content:

Software Development

Looks in-depth at the engineering and software quality issues through which major information systems and lifecycle models were introduced. Model driven development and forward and reverse engineering tools to model, design and implement a software system are all covered. An integral part of this module is the use of CASE tools and hands-on experience which is essential for IT professionals.

Web-Based Information Systems Management

The business strategy of an organisation should be supported by an Information Systems (IS) and Information Technology (IT) strategy. This module explores how to strategically plan for these systems. You’ll examine the different types of information systems used in organisations and the underlying technologies used. With the Internet as a primary business tool e-commerce is now part of the business model and the driving force behind e-commerce is data management systems. The module covers the fundamentals of organising web-driven data, online client/server data transaction technologies, and applying web-based interfaces for data extraction. The module provides practical and theoretical knowledge of the Internet. You learn how to design and develop interactive webpages using HTML, JavaScript and asp.net, how to present structured information in valid XML documents and how to transform them into HTML using XSL style sheets.

Industrial Data Management for Decision Support

Data management systems are now the central software of most industrial data processing applications and the driving force behind business information technology and e-commerce. This module covers the concepts and theories of managing industrial data such as the implementation of large volume data storage, preserving data quality and data preparation for dimensional modelling. The module presents state-of-the art technologies that support decision-making and provide problem-solving capabilities to managers in industry. You examine how data management techniques can be applied in business information systems to enhance the decision-making power of managers to address modern and future business needs.

Computer Networks, Wireless and Mobile Communication Systems

Computer network technology enables a vast range of activity from business competitiveness to national security to personal communications. This module establishes an understanding of the operation, capabilities and security issues affecting network and Internet communications, business computer networks and the ways in which these factors interact. You will learn about a variety of types of current networks and a single framework will be used to analyse, design and construct networks capable of providing the right connectivity and performance needed by specific applications. You will be able to develop a commercially viable network application.
