It will equip you with the relevant knowledge and skills necessary to analyse economic, business, organisational, social, technical and regulatory issues relevant to electronic commerce. It will develop your awareness of information systems development issues and enable you to make informed choices on specific information systems technologies, methods and tools, relevant to electronic commerce. By the end of this course you will have the technical skills necessary to implement electronic commerce projects either directly or by the management of others.

Programme Content:
The course explores the theories and principles that are imported from different disciplines to underpin the development and management of an electronic commerce enterprise; these theories/principles include economics, business strategies, systems theory, management theory, legal and regulatory theory, ethics and professionalism, cognitive psychology and organisational theory.

It will equip you with the relevant knowledge and skills necessary to analyse economic, business, organisational, social, technical and regulatory issues relevant to electronic commerce. It will develop your awareness of information systems development issues and enable you to make informed choices on specific information systems technologies, methods and tools, relevant to electronic commerce. By the end of this course you will have the technical skills necessary to implement electronic commerce projects either directly or by the management of others.

Normally a second class honours degree or above or an equivalent overseas qualification. Degrees in technical and business-related subjects are preferable. We also consider candidates with other formal qualifications or relevant working experience.
Computer Networks, Wireless and Mobile Communication Systems
Explores a vast range of activity including business competitiveness, national security and personal communications to name but a few. You establish an understanding of the operation, capabilities, security issues affecting network and internet communications, business use of computer networks and the various ways in which these factors interact with each other.

Principles and Strategies for Electronic Commerce
You gain the knowledge needed to underpin economic theory, organisational theory and the core principles necessary to evaluate and implement electronic commerce, either for policy-making or strategic management. You explore major concepts, methods and technologies needed to develop business strategies for an organisation focusing on the Internet as the medium. It places the e-commerce opportunity within the context of traditional economic theory concerned with markets and competition whilst taking account of the unique features of information and digital goods. The strategic management principles that guide competition between established firms and enable the survival of new firms are explored in the context of e-business. You will also examine major concepts, methods and technologies used to develop effective marketing strategies for organisations focusing on the Internet as their key business medium.

Regulation of Electronic Commerce and Information technology
Focus on the regulation of electronic commerce activities and associated technologies. You will develop an understanding of regulatory frameworks for electronic technologies and the underlying legal principles which govern electronic commerce. The module critically examines the role of regulation in the commercial context of electronic transactions and how such regulation applies to these transactions. Legal and regulatory issues related to intellectual property, conducting business online, privacy, jurisdiction are among topics covered. In addition to the above, you will cover regulation in the broader context of professional and ethical issues relevant to the use of information technology.

Web based Information Systems Management
You will study and evaluate different classes of Information Systems used in a range of organisation types, and the underlying technologies used. The business strategy of an organisation should be supported by Information Systems (IS) and Information Technology (IT) strategy. In order to achieve this developing IS should be part of an organisation¿s strategic planning. In the internet age the driving force behind E-Commerce is the data management systems. Hence, you will cover the relevant elements of organising web-driven data, online client/server data transaction technologies, and applying Web-based interfaces for data extraction.
