Training Course:MSc Computer and Network SecuritySchool/Trainer:Middlesex University Business School London, United Kingdom
Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' As society becomes more dependent upon computer network services the threat of security breaches is ever more critical. This specialist course extends beyond the technical sphere to cover strategic, organisational and managerial issues, including planning to address network security, minimise security breaches, mitigate the damage and shorten recovery time.
G422M Newly-built and well-equipped specialist networking labs. Strong tutorial support Emphasis on professional and project skills for your step into industry Strong academic and research profile, including authors of some of the UK Real enthusiasm to support students explore new concepts and innovations Practical work integrated into every module Generous hands-on practical experience Gain skills to analyse security risks and evaluate new security threats Learn to develop security policies and make functional security designs Excellent career opportunities in a heavily-invested industry.Special features: Newly-built and well-equipped specialist networking labs. You examine wireless communication systems, network operating systems and interfacing socket programming, servers and their security implications, the planning and implementation of network security management, including security, risk analysis and disaster recovery planning.
The course will provide you with:
An understanding of the fundamental importance of computer, network, and communication system security for an organisation. The ability to involve both the management and the user in the process of awareness, decision and implementation with regard to computer and network security. The skills to analyse the security risks a communication system may have and to propose solutions. The knowledge necessary to evaluate new threats to authentication, confidentiality and privacy with a view of implementing solutions to combat such threats. The ability to make a functional security design for a communication system and implement it successfully. A balance of theory, advanced practical skills and experience to develop a sound knowledge and analytical ability to facilitate your intellectual and professional development. Normally a second class honours degree or above in computer science, science or engineering, or an equivalent overseas qualification. Candidates with other degrees but with relevant work experience will also be considered. Network Management, Security and Disaster Recovery
You will develop the conceptual knowledge and acquire the skills essential for the management of computer networks, their development and subsequent operation, monitoring and assessment. You will also explore and develop your knowledge of managing the security of enterprise information and network systems, including risk analysis, incident response and disaster recovery plans.
Network Systems and Services
You will study the design, implementation and maintenance of network systems and services. You examine concepts such as a network operating system and explore networking paradigms including socket and thread-based programming, Remote Procedure Calls (RPC), CORBA and Java RMI. You will also explore the design and implementation of Global Services such as Web Servers. The course concludes by looking at new developments in networking including Network Processors, Blade Servers and Grid Computing.
Network Security: Protocols and Standards
You will cover the concepts and critical issues of network security with the emphasis on standards, protocols and applications. The module will provide you with an understanding of network security technologies, algorithms and protocols. It will also instil in you an understanding of the design criteria in cryptography and data security as well as developing basic system analysis and solution synthesis.
Computer and Network Security, Wireless and Mobile Communication Systems
Computer network technology enables a vast range of significant activity: business competitiveness, national security, personal communications to name but a few. On this module you will establish an understanding of the operation, capabilities, security issues affecting network and Internet communication systems, business use of computer networks and the various ways in which these factors interact with each other.
Dissertation
The project module provides the opportunity to undertake a substantial piece of independent work, allowing you to integrate and develop further understanding of computer and network security by analysing, designing and implementing a Computer and Network Security strategy and/or system. Projects are proposed by students and are largely student-organised. Each student will be supervised by a member of Middlesex University staff. All project topics must be approved by the programme leader.
