'' This innovative programme combines the strength and expertise of our largest social science subjects. The criminology component draws on our national and international reputation, including well established links with major European universities. Criminology at Middlesex is sociologically informed and this programme provides a sociological and psychological perspective on the nature of crime and its control. Forensic psychology is taught by staff who are experts in their field. L380 Includes theories of crime and crime control, both from a sociological and psychological perspective, and of the methodological insights acquired from each theoretical position.We cover the central concerns of forensic psychology, for example, judicial decision making, offender treatment programmes and the psychological effects of imprisonment.

Compulsory modules: Issues in Criminological Theory, Criminological Psychology; Legal Psychology; Research Methods in Criminology and Psychology; and Dissertation (MSc only). Optional modules: Feminist Perspectives in Criminology; White Collar Crime; Preparing for Criminological Research; Issues in Criminal Justice; Prisons in Context; Comparative European Criminology; Probation and Applied Criminology; and Youth Justice. The majority of the criminology modules are assessed by a 4,000-word essay. The forensic psychology modules are assessed by a 1,000-word field report and 4,000-word essay. The dissertation is 15,000 words.
