Marketing communications is a creative and evolving field. This course covers the key subjects related to marketing communications as a strategic marketing tool, including an analysis of the core components of marketing communications, such as advertising, public relations and sales promotions. Both traditional and new media forms are examined and their effectiveness analysed in the context of durable products, fast-moving consumer goods, services and social marketing campaigns.

You will develop your knowledge, skills and capabilities to an advanced level in strategic management and decision-making. With a particular emphasis on strategic marketing, you will also develop the necessary knowledge and skills needed to participate in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of long-term, organisation-wide decisions related to business environment, competition, markets, products and users/consumers.

Programme Content:
Marketing communications is a creative and evolving field. This course covers the key subjects related to marketing communications as a strategic marketing tool, including an analysis of the core components of marketing communications, such as advertising, public relations and sales promotions. Both traditional and new media forms are examined and their effectiveness analysed in the context of durable products, fast-moving consumer goods, services and social marketing campaigns.

You will develop your knowledge, skills and capabilities to an advanced level in strategic management and decision-making. With a particular emphasis on strategic marketing, you will also develop the necessary knowledge and skills needed to participate in the formulation, implementation and evaluation of long-term, organisation-wide decisions related to business environment, competition, markets, products and users/consumers.

Normally a second class honours degree or above, or overseas equivalent qualification. We also consider applicants without a degree who have extensive (minimum three years) managerial experience in sales or marketing.
You complete four taught modules followed by a dissertation module.

Contemporary Marketing Strategy

This module gives you a powerful framework to analyse marketing processes from a strategic and managerial perspective in a diverse range of organisations. The module focuses especially on the development and implementation of marketing strategies in order to gain a competitive advantage in a highly volatile environment.

Research in Marketing

Develop the ability to evaluate and interpret the role of market research in order to inform strategic marketing decisions. You learn to critically analyse both primary and secondary data to assist decision-making and strategy development.

Contemporary Issues in Integrated Marketing Communications

Driven by leading-edge research into the effects and effectiveness of various marketing communication tools, you will understand the advantages of having an integrated marketing communications approach.

PR, Advertising and Sales Promotion

Develops your knowledge of the most prominent sectors of marketing communications - public relations, advertising and sales promotion. The approach is inspired by a thorough review and critical analysis of relevant theory but focuses on the practical applications of theory to real-world activity. You will look at advanced research into the effects of public relations, advertising and sales promotion seeing how each tool can be used strategically and tactically, individually and in concert, to maximise overall communication effectiveness.

Modules:
You complete four taught modules followed by a dissertation module.
