'' This course provides an understanding of the theory and practice of external financial reporting by business organisations, including the analysis and limitations of published financial reports. Financial reporting is presented as a process of reporting financial (and other) information to a range of stakeholders in order to ensure appropriate accountability and stewardship. Recent case studies relating to accounting scandals and reporting failures are an important part of the learning resources used in class to sensitise students to the needs for integrity in accounting and reporting, and the potential limitations of regulation and standards. Different national and global models of reporting are also explored in order to explore the significance of different regulatory regimes.
Module Aims: To develop managers understanding of (a) the theory and practice of external financial reporting by business organisations including the analysis and limitations of published financial reports, (b) the methods and limitations of costing and budgetary planning, (c) the principal theories of capital value and related investment decision-making. ...''
