Course Description:
'' Increasingly, the system of law and regulations that governs UK society has to be understood within the wider European context. The Diploma will give you opportunities to explore the law and legal system of England, Wales and the European Union, while studying one of the official languages of the EU, French, to intermediate (L211/LZX211) or advanced (L310/LZX310) levels, and gaining insights into French society.
This award will provide you with the opportunity to:
explore and develop your interest in, and to gain knowledge and understanding of, the law and legal system of England, Wales and the European Union
communicate fluently and appropriately, maintaining a high degree of grammatical accuracy in French with competent or native speakers
apply effectively and appropriately your language skills in professional and other contexts
explore and develop your cognitive skills, become an independent learner, and develop other associated and transferable skills and attributes through the study of law and of French
take your legal studies further in this or other European jurisdictions, having learnt the intellectual, linguistic and practical skills necessary to do this effectively.
If you’re new to study or to the OU, we recommend that you start with a course at Level 1. We particularly recommend starting with our new course Rules, rights and justice: an introduction to law (W100). This course is designed to introduce you to the concepts and study of law and legal reasoning. The course has extra support to help you to get used to OU study methods as well as to prepare you for higher-level study. If you complete this Level 1 work successfully you’ll have a firm foundation for future studies.
If you need a firmer basis for the French component of the Diploma, it would be useful to study the French course L120/LZX120.
You must include at least 40 points from OU courses that have not been counted in an OU diploma or other first degree you have been awarded.
