Course Description:

'' The first year of the DMS programme consists of the Certificate in Management (CM) programme. The Diploma extends the length and breadth of issues covered at certificate level. The focus is on developing personal effectiveness. The programme actively involves mentors and learning logs to encourage transfer of skills to the workplace and is particularly valuable to people aspiring to middle management roles.

Students study six modules over two semesters:

Managing People
Builds on the earlier certificate module and develops interpersonal and people management skills that support the enhancement of organisational performance.

Financial Management
Provides skills in understanding and applying financial and management accounting techniques.

Strategic Marketing Management
Focuses on innovative market research and planning processes and techniques.

Strategic Information Management
Facilitates the critical evaluation and improvement of organisational information systems, using modelling techniques.

Managing Organisations
Develops understanding of planning and the execution of processes from a strategic perspective.

Undertaking work-based research projects
Introduces you to the principles of good research methods. These include skills in sourcing information and in data collection and analysis. The module is designed to enable you to undertake a major assignment that will normally be work-based, the successful completion of which, combined with success in the other modules, will result in the award of a Diploma in Management Studies.
