Course Description:

'' The rationale for the course is to equip students with the ability to integrate the business knowledge and technical skills that will enable them to understand the challenges presented by the e-business environment. The course is designed to allow graduates to achieve a recognised qualification in e-business.
The overall aim is to develop course members as managers and practitioners to meet the evolving challenges presented by the e-business environment.
Learning objectives
i) to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to produce webpages which will have the functionality required for e-business applications and web servers;

ii) to develop an awareness and understanding of the role e-business can play in enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of the economy;

iii) to gain a comprehensive understanding of marketing theory, practice and issues in the context of e-business;

iv) to give an understanding of the key role of data communications in business, including e-business;

v) to provide students with a framework for the successful design of e-information systems strategies that align and integrate with business needs;

vi) to enable students to understand the methods of raising finance within an e-business scenario and to appreciate and analyse the risks involved; and

vii) to enable students to critically evaluate aspects of law relating to e-business transactions from an international perspective.

Course Content
The course consists of eight core modules, one of which includes a major project, studied over two semesters full-time and four semesters part-time.

Website Design
Marketing for E-Business
Web Server Management (Project)
Financial and Legal Aspects of E-Business

Teaching and Assessment
The course adopts a flexible approach to teaching and learning, based on a combination of case studies, group work and practical assignments. In particular, emphasis is placed on the needs of the modern manager in the e-business global and organisational context of e-business and assignments cover a broad range from business reports and case studies to computer- based practicals. In addition to attending the lecture/seminar programme, a considerable amount of time will be spent working as a member of a variety of learning groups, in order to capitalise on the varied backgrounds of course members. Groups are used for the analysis of case materials, to provide a vehicle for sharing experience between participants and as an important means of mutual support throughout the demanding study programme.

Entry Requirements
You should have:

i) a UK Honours degree (minimum Second Class) or equivalent; or

ii) qualifications which include a significant academic content, such as a professional qualification (for example in Law or Accounting);

iii) applicants whose first language is not English will require an IELTS score of 6.5.

Non-standard qualifications and selection process
Non-standard applicants will be expected to demonstrate to the course leader that they have had a significant amount of relevant work experience and are sufficiently motivated to study effectively on a Masters programme. Relevant work experience will normally be taken to be several years of employment which have involved the acquisition of skills in logical thinking, analytical methods, preparation of reports and technical aspects related to the module content.
