Course Description:
'' Students who earn an undergraduate degree in accounting from another college or university, or who receive a bachelors degree in an area other than accounting, can obtain professional training in accounting by directly entering our Master of Accountancy (MAc) program. We tailor the MAc program of study to meet the individuals needs in light of his or her background. Thus, some students need broad coverage of accounting topics, while others immediately are able to begin specializing in one of the MAc tracks:
Financial/Auditing Focus on the preparation, audit, and use of corporate and not-for-profit financial statements to prepare yourself for a career in public accounting, corporate finance, or internal audit.
Management Information Systems Focus on systems architecture, database design, software engineering, and telecommunications to prepare yourself for a variety of career opportunities including consulting and assurance services.
Managerial Accounting Focus on cost management and budgeting to prepare yourself for a career as a management specialist for organizations across the employment spectrum.
Tax Focus on tax planning and tax research to prepare yourself for a career in public accounting or industry. Our programs qualify students to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA) examinations. The pass rate for our graduates on these exams far exceeds the national average.
Under the accountancy law that became effective in Iowa in January 2001, an individual wanting to practice as a certified public accountant (CPA) will be required to have 150 hours of college education. The MAc program, a nonthesis program that requires a total of 30 semester hours beyond the BBA, satisfies this certification requirement.
