'' Many naively assume that seeking financial support from a charitable source is as easy as writing home for money. It’s not that way.

The Grant Writing School is an intensive introduction to the practice of preparing proposals to bring in funding that will support needed and worthwhile projects in the nonprofit arena. It is a course suited for both the beginner who is prepared for a thorough overview of the process as well for the more experienced practitioner who seeks to build a stronger knowledge base.

Writing a grant is just one of the many tasks involved in the overall process of securing funding from a foundation, corporation, or other philanthropy. The process includes research, fact finding, relationship building and stewardship. It also requires an understanding of strategy to make sure that the funding you seek will not only address the need you plan to meet, but also strengthen the capacity of your organization to accomplish its mission.

Participants will gain an overall understanding of the steps involved in:
Identifying prospective funding sources
Developing a plan of approach to seek support
Understanding the fundamentals of project design
Preparing effective proposals

This course will help you clarify your thinking and examine your motivation for seeking financial support from foundations. We will examine the entire proposal writing process, including letters of inquiry, concept papers, and full blown proposals. You will be given the opportunity to engage in an interactive and “hands-on�learning experience that will raise your confidence level in seeking outside support and increase your chances of receiving funds.
