'' An introduction to modern European and American architecture. This course examines practical, social, and aesthetic dimensions related to the development of modern architecture. Special consideration is given to styles and collective movements such as the Bauhaus, the International Style, the Chicago School, and postmodernism. Architects considered at length include Henry Hobson Richardson, Louis Sullivan, Frank Lloyd Wright, Le Corbusier, Alvar Aalto, Mies van der Rohe, and Robert Venturi. Open to first-year students.
