Let UMA’s Bachelor of Music in Jazz and Contemporary Music and Associate of Science in Music �two of a handful of small jazz ensemble programs in the United States �expand your horizons, with opportunities to perform in instrumental and vocal ensembles ranging from quartets to big band.
For the bachelor’s degree, a four-year course of study with admission by audition, the focus is on performance, arranging, composition, and pedagogy. Courses include music theory, ear training, arranging, composition, ensemble performance, music history, pedagogy, music technology (including recording studio and computer music/MIDI techniques), and music business. While our program emphasizes jazz, it also addresses related genres, including European classical music and indigenous styles.
Short on time? Get started with an associate degree program and prepare to launch your career as a performer, business manager, teacher, or recording technician. With the baccalaureate, you become a strong candidate for a broader spectrum of music professions, including teaching, composing, arranging, recording, musician management, entertainment, radio announcing, and box office management. ...''
