'' Massasoit Community College in Canton, MA, offers quality training in Medical Assistant, a one-year (full time) Certificate Program. Graduates are eligible to participate in the National Certified Medical Assistant Examination.

Medical assistants perform administrative and clinical tasks. The duties vary depending on office location, size and specialty. Administrative duties performed include answering telephones, greeting patients, scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, and completing insurance forms.

Clinical duties include obtaining medical histories from patients, recording vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, and assisting the physician during the examination.

Medical assistants also collect and prepare laboratory specimens, sterilize instruments, perform venipunctures and EKG’s. Medical assistants who work for specialists will have additional duties.

Medical assisting is expected to be one of the fastest growing occupations through the year 2010.

At Massasoit, formal instruction is integrated with invaluable field experience. A special feature of the program is an eight-week required Clinical Internship in a physician’s office, health care agency or hospital. Such affiliation frequently leads to employment opportunities.

PART-TIME PROGRAM
The Medical Assistant program is available on a part-time basis in which students can take courses at their own pace and complete their certification over a longer period of time.
