Course Description:
'' The Plumbing and Construction Technology program prepares a person for advanced placement in the plumbing, pipefitting, and related fields. Graduates of this program can take the journeyperson exam and become employed as supervisors, instructors, material expeditors, inspectors, estimators, consultants, employers or contractors. A grade of "C" must be maintained in each course. Students who have grades below the required "C" must repeat the course.
Students and the instructor comply with personal safety practices associated with the profession. Plumbing codes and work ethics are stressed. Students do not need to furnish their tools. Class begins at 8:00 a.m. and finishes at 2:30 p.m. Class meets Monday through Friday. This is a two semester course only.

Admission Information
Submit an application for enrollment to the Office of Admissions and Records at Hinds Community College
High school graduates must request that an official high school transcript or GED be sent to the Office of Admissions and Records
All students must take the Compass test to assess developmental needs
Have an interview with the instructor and complete the interview form
Successfully complete the one-year program for a career certificate
Complete the posttests and show academic gain
Participate in CPAS testing
Participate in graduation exercise to receive the certificate
Employment Opportunities
Students will find the program a reliable and thorough training ground for employment in industry. Typical jobs filled by students who have completed this program include plumber apprentices, journeyman plumbers, pipe fitters, and business owners. From the program, students may choose related fields of employment such as inspectors, insulators, maintenance personal, estimators, and mechanical drafters.
Approximate salaries range from $260.00 per week person not attending the program to $340.00 per week for a person completing the program. Based on work experience, knowledge, and quality of work, a student can expect to earn $400.00 up to $800.00 per week after 2 years of employment (amounts based on a 40 hour work week).
