Training Course:

Economics

School/Trainer:

Hastings College
Hastings, Nebraska, United States

Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced

Course Description:

'' The program requires the CABE Core (focused on speaking, writing, and computing) as well as a selection of required economics courses designed to emphasize theory, methodology, and practical application. The discipline of economics is integrative in nature and thus lends itself well to a traditional liberal arts curriculum. While economics requires one to exercise a set of tools unique to the discipline, the tools cannot be effectively utilized without knowledge of social, political, and historic factors as well as mathematical principles. We encourage coursework in a variety of disciplines relevant to individual interests. We strongly encourage study abroad and academic internships.

Careers in Economics: Our program lays the groundwork for success in graduate school and in the private sector. The scarcity of economics majors across the country and the reputation of the discipline as a component of a traditional liberal arts education, as well as a rigorous proponent of applicable theory and skills, make graduates in the field particularly attractive to post- graduate institutions and employers. Hastings College students majoring in economics have been admitted to Ph.D. programs in economics, MBA programs, Masters of Public Policy programs, and Law School. Graduates have been hired by Fortune 500 companies (domestically and internationally); banking and finance institutions, and public policy think tanks. Some have gone on to serve organizations such as the Peace Corps.

Omicron Delta Epsilon: Qualified students may wish to join ODE, an international honor society in economics. Omicron Delta Epsilon is an international honorary recognizing outstanding academic achievement in economics. To be eligible, students must complete twelve hours of economics coursework and earn a B average in those courses. Founded in 2003, O.D.E. at HC creates a forum in which students can learn more about the discipline of economics than is covered in the classroom. Student-faculty discussions, guest speakers, service projects, and activities provide a fun atmosphere and another opportunity to get involved at Hastings College.
