'' ADVERTISING/PUBLIC RELATIONS MINOR 27 credit hour concentration in the study of advertising, marketing, and communication theory Intended as supplement to majors in which students need to be prepared to promote a business or product

STRENGTHS OF THE AD/PR PROGRAM: " Emphasis accounts for the largest enrollment among communications majors " Electives in this emphasis allow students to concentrate in an area of interest: graphic arts, public affairs, sales, design, and copy writing " Practicum " Students may receive academic credit for practicing skills: selling, designing, and record keeping related to advertising for student media " prepares students for entry-level positions in advertising and public relations " Course requirements position students to do volunteer work in the community " Students gain hands-on experience working with recognized non-profit agencies such as United Way, Adams County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Girl Scouts " Projects generate portfolio materials for the students " Projects enable students to network with professionals
