Course Description:
'' The Department of Foreign Languages offers courses in Latin, Greek, Hebrew, French, German and Spanish. Whenever possible, the courses are conducted in the language studied. The aim of the instruction is reading, writing, aural and oral proficiency, an understanding of the life, literature, contemporary issues and culture of the country. The department also offers courses which are the language component of the International Studies major and an E.S.L. endorsement.
Strengths of the Program
Lectures, discussions and films in the language, as well as computer aided language study, are offered for the benefit of the student in the department. Students are encouraged to receive Hastings College credit for participating in a number of foreign study programs in Spain and Mexico, Germany and Austria, Canada and France, England and Ireland, Russia and others. Hastings College has exchange agreements with institutions in many of these countries which permit a student direct access to and transfer of academic credit from programs abroad in foreign languages and other academic disciplines.
