'' Radiology technologists use x-rays and other forms of radiation to perform a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic functions as part of the health care team.
The job outlook for professionals in this field is expected to be favorable, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, which projects job growth of 18 to 26 percent through 2014.
At any of our campuses, you can take required science and general education courses to complete an associates or bachelor’s degree in radiology technology at one of our partner colleges.
Fort Hays State University Program
A significant portion of the requirements for an Associate in Science (A.S.) degree in radiology technology from Fort Hays State University (FHSU) in Kansas can be met at Central Community College. The cooperative program with the general academic course work consists of 38 or more credit hours of pre-radiological study to be completed at Central Community College. Transfer courses include: General Biology, Anatomy and Physiology I and II, College Algebra, Microcomputer Applications, Oral Communication, English Composition, Writing and Research, Introduction to Psychology or Sociology, Personal Health, and Medical Terminology.
Mary Lanning Program
An associate of science degree in radiologic technology is available through a partnership between CCC and the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital. Students complete the curriculum provided by the hospital’s School of Radiologic Technology and 35 semester-hours of credit in CCC basic science and general education courses.
All credits earned for the associate of science degree will transfer into the bachelor’s degree program in radiography at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
University of Nebraska Medical Center Program
The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC), St. Francis Medical Center and CCC jointly offer a bachelor’s degree in radiation science technology that can be completed in Grand Island.
Students complete 50 credit-hours of prerequisite course work from CCC before applying to UNMC for admission to the degree program. After being admitted to the UNMC program, student complete an additional 17 credits from CCC, take radiology and related course work from UNMC either online or through video classes offered in Grand Island, and do required clinical rotations at St. Francis Medical Center.
Graduates receive their bachelors degree from UNMC and are eligible to take for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification exam in radiography. Certification is required for employment as a radiographer in hospitals or other settings.
