'' The registered nurse field is the largest health care occupation and the fastest-growing occupation in the nation, according to the U. S. Department of Labor, which projects a need for 623,000 new registered nurses over a 10-year period.
A career as a registered nurse offers a wide variety of opportunities for personal growth, interpersonal challenge, and the capacity to make a difference in the quality of human life.
Central Community College offers a two-year Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) at its Grand Island Campus. The first two semesters can be completed at the Columbus Campus or the Kearney Center and a limited number of students can complete the program by doing clinical rotations in Columbus or Kearney and attending class one day a week in Grand Island.
Graduates are prepared to take the NCLEX-RN licensing examination required to practice as a professional registered nurse (RN).
The ADN program combines education in the theory and science of nursing with general education in the behavioral, biological and physical sciences. The full-time ADN program can be completed in two years.
The three-year part-time ADN program is designed for students who want to take a reduced class load or who are advised to do so.
Nursing students participate in a combination of classroom, laboratory and clinical activities at all levels. Clinical learning experience is completed at local hospitals, long-term care facilities, and in other health care settings. A faculty/student ratio ranging from 1:8 to 1:10 is maintained.
ADN to BSN
A graduate of the ADN program may seek upward mobility to a bachelor of science in nursing program. Advanced placement information is available from the BSN programs in Nebraska.
