Course Description:
'' In today’s health care environment nurse leaders, both executive and managerial, need a broad background in business concepts such as human and material resources, finance, information systems, organizational communication and change. Emphasis of this content is placed within the context of advanced nursing practice in health care. Facilitators, all successful health care leaders, use their practice to place theory into today’s health care milieu. The capstone seminar, a service project, is designed to guide students in the integration of nursing and management theory with a practical application.
Course Descriptions
In addition to the core courses, the student enrolls in the following courses which are focus content for the Nurse Administrator.
MGT 503 Management Theory and Application
Apply theories of management to guide and direct people toward the attainment of organizational goals.

MGT 505 Human Resources Management
Analyze and describe jobs, develop effective recruiting and selection programs, and appraise performance.

MGT 535 Economics
Analyze such data as unemployment, inflation, the GNP and its components, and other economic indications.

MGT 555 Managerial Finance
Analyze the relationship of the financial manager, the manager’s organization, the financial markets, and the tax environment.

MGT 610 Marketing
Analyze activities that satisfy customer needs through production, placement, promotion, packaging, and pricing of goods, services, and ideas. Enables managers to explore target markets, product, and service mixes, and marketing environments.

NUR 575 Decision Making and Information Management
Focuses on understanding and improving the decision making processes of nurse professionals; examining how decision makers think about difficult problems, and characterizing the limitations of human decision making ability. It also considers the organization and representation of information; access to information; categorization, indexing, and content analysis; maintenance of databases; and evaluation of search and navigation techniques.

NUR 645 Organizational Communication and Change Management
Relates communication theories to management theories. Analyze the flow and effectiveness of communication and develop effective change management plans.

NUR 695 Seminar: Strategic Decision Making
Students work as a consulting team with an organization preparing and presenting a project including an analysis of strengths and opportunities for improvements.
