Training Course:Automotive Technology - Ford ASSETSchool/Trainer:Mt. Hood Community College Gresham, Portland, Oregon, United States
Course Format: Classroom | E-learning | Virtual Class | Online | On-site | Blended | Self-paced
Course Description:
'' The Ford Automotive Student Service Educational Training is an Associate of Applied Science degree curriculum designed to provide technically competent, professional level technicians for Ford dealerships. Mt. Hood Community College is offering this opportunity in partnership with the Ford Motor Company. While most students will be from the metropolitan area, residents from throughout the state will be included. What qualifications are necessary for inclusion and success in the program? Successful applicants must be high school graduates (or hold a GED equivalency certificate) and, based upon the Colleges Placement Tests, eligible for enrollment in English and mathematics classes. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older before beginning ASSET, and must possess a valid drivers license. Additionally, evidence of aptitude for advanced automotive training must be presented, as demonstrated by automotive experience, previous education, ASE certification, aptitude tests if necessary, etc. How long is the program? ASSET is designed as an intensive full-time two-year college curriculum with four quarters spent in college classes and four quarters spent in sponsoring Ford/Lincoln-Mercury dealerships. Students rotate in 11 week cycles between the Dealership and the campus. Part-time enrollment is not permitted and class registration and dealership employment must be continuous.
How is a position in a sponsoring dealership obtained? Many Ford/Lincoln Mercury Dealerships are actively searching for ASSET candidates and the College will coordinate the placement of students accepted in the program. It is important to remember that for final acceptance into the program, a student must both be admitted by the College and employed by a sponsoring dealership.
What is a "sponsoring dealership"? A sponsoring Ford/Lincoln Mercury Dealer is one who agrees to 1) employ an ASSET student in a rotating cooperative work-study experience, 2) supplement the most recent classroom instruction with appropriate shop floor work, 3) provide the ASSET student-employee with work uniforms consistent with other employees and 4) appoint a person to coordinate the dealership-classroom experiences.
What does it cost - and who pays it? The cost of tuition, fees, books and personal tools are the responsibility of the individual student. For each eleven-week campus rotation, tuition and fees will be approximately $1368 with books/fee costs of about $350. Personal tools (which must be approved by the Colleges ASSET Coordinator) will cost approximately $1500-$2000. Discounts for tools will be available through College and Dealership contacts. Regular College financial assistance will be available for qualified students through the Colleges Financial Aid Office. The Dealership rotation is a paid experience which can help to defray expenses on a continuing basis.
Can previously earned college credits be applied toward completion of the degree? Credits earned in other college programs will be evaluated based on Mt. Hoods transfer credit regulations and appropriate general education credits will be accepted. ...''
