'' Physical therapist assistants work directly with patients to restore physical activity following an accident or illness. Under the supervision of a physical therapist, physical therapist assistants teach patients how to exercise, how to use wheelchairs, crutches, canes and walkers. Physical therapist assistants use techniques such as heat, ultra-sound, massage, hydrotherapy, traction and electrotherapy in the treatment of patients.

Additionally, you need to be able to think on your feet in a fast-paced environment, have patience and tact, be emotionally stable and have physical stamina.
What does the program offer?
The Physical Therapist Assistant program at MHCC is accredited by the Commission for Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). This program is taught by highly-qualified instructors with extensive experience in physical therapy. Coursework consists of lecture and laboratory instruction on campus and supervised clinical experience in health care facilities in the Portland metropolitan area and throughout the state.
The Physical Therapist Assistant program is a restricted-entry program. You must apply for admission and meet the program criteria before being considered for acceptance.
