Begin with a solid foundation that includes classes in introductory retailing and fashion history. Add some drawing and design. Next, learn about apparel evaluation and construction, along with retail operations and manufacturing. Delve into event and fashion show production, enhanced with marketing, advertising and promotions principles. We haven’t forgotten business training focused on the industry�you’ll take classes devoted to store planning and lease management. You’re also introduced to sales management, leadership and teambuilding concepts. Then, learn how to stay on top of new looks as you study well-known designers and current fashion trends. After Graduation
You’re ready for entry-level jobs as diverse as the field itself. You can work in major department stores, clothing companies, or footwear and jewelry retailers. You may even find yourself working in home furniture or sporting goods environments. You can be a sales associate, assistant merchandiser or assistant manager trainee. You may gravitate toward a job as fashion coordinator. With some experience in the workplace, you can advance into an assistant manager role, as well as department manager, retail store manager and area supervisor. You may also choose to work as showroom coordinator or retail analyst.

Define and differentiate the different types of retailing operations and relate them to a specific marketing concept
Compare and contrast one period of fashion design to another
Articulate and solve basic problems relating to form and function
Solve problems in 2-D and 3-D design
Develop the skills and techniques necessary to illustrate fashion design concepts in an effective and professional manner
Utilize a variety of software, including presentation and graphic applications
Summarize the primary theories and concepts related to advertising
Define and create a marketable promotions package
Analyze different classifications of apparel including price points, fit, construction and the market
Utilize image manipulation software
Summarize the major components of marketing
Use a digital camera to produce photographic images
Create marketable visual displays
Calculate, analyze, and interpret financial concepts associated with accounting from a merchandising perspective
Learn the importance of staging, lighting, line-up and selections of models in the development of a well-run fashion show or event
Apply legal principles to the formation, operation, and termination of a business
Demonstrate knowledge of the role of a buyer in various types of merchandising organizations
Identify the requirements for various forms of business communications based on the purpose and desired outcomes
Demonstrate knowledge of the entire manufacturing
process
Evaluate and predict consumer behavior based on traditional and evolving theories
Apply management skills to the selling function
Examine the social, psychological, political, economic and technological influences that contribute to current fashion trends
Demonstrate teambuilding skills in the role of a team member and team leader
Demonstrate an understanding of the competitive international market, and the terms and concepts utilized within that market
Demonstrate the ability to manage and work in a constantly changing field
Select, prepare, and formally present a graduate portfolio
