Mandarin Chinese corresponds to the first year of high school Chinese.

Pronunciation, grammar, practical vocabulary, and basic facts on the geography, customs and culture of China.

Acceptable for Chinese 1 credit, UCLA.

Chinese 1 with 2 acceptable for Chinese 100ABC credit, CSULA. See Foreign Language transfer limits.

2 Elementary Chinese II (5) UC:CSU

Prerequisite: Chinese 1 or equivalent.

Completes the elementary Mandarin Chinese grammar; introduces reading and writing of elementary texts.

Acceptable for Chinese 2 credit, UCLA.

Chinese 1 with 2 acceptable for Chinese 100ABC credit, CSULA.

3 Intermediate Chinese I (5) UC:CSU

Prerequisite: Chinese 2 or equivalent.

A review of grammar with vocabulary building for conversational fluency, written composition and advanced reading.

Acceptable for Chinese 3 credit, UCLA.

Chinese 3 with 4 acceptable for Chinese 200ABC credit, CSULA.

4 Intermediate Chinese II (5) UC:CSU

Prerequisite: Chinese 3 or equivalent.

Continues a review of grammar, advanced composition and reading of everyday and literary subjects to study idiomatic expressions.

Acceptable for Chinese 4 credit, UCLA.

Chinese 4 with 3 acceptable for Chinese 200ABC credit, CSULA.

10 Chinese Civilization (3) UC:CSU

Geography, history, government, and institutions of China; the life and customs of the people; the literature and arts, and the contributions to civilization. Conducted in English.

Acceptable for Chinese 50 credit, UCLA.
