1 Elementary French I (5) UC:CSU (CAN FREN 2)/(CAN FREN SEQ A equals French 1 and 2)
Corresponds to the first year of high school French.
Advisory: English 28.
Pronunciation, grammar, practical vocabulary, useful phrases, basic facts on the geography, customs and culture of the French speaking world.
Acceptable for French 1, UCLA. UC accepts only one of French 1 or 21 and 22.
French 1 with 2 acceptable for French 100ABC credit, CSULA.
2 Elementary French II (5) UC:CSU (CAN FREN 4)/(CAN FREN SEQ A equals French 1 and 2)
Prerequisite: French 1 or 21 and 22 or equivalent.
Completes elementary French grammar; includes the reading of elementary texts, and emphasizes the spoken language.
Acceptable for French 2 credit, UCLA.

3 Intermediate French I (5) UC:CSU (CAN FREN 10)

A review of grammar, practice in composition, and readings in French literature and civilization.

4 Intermediate French II (5) UC:CSU
Prerequisite: French 3 or equivalent.
Continues a review of grammar, with an emphasis on more advanced language use. Readings from classic and modern literature.

5 Advanced French I (5) UC:CSU
Prerequisite: French 4, or equivalent with a grade of C or better in either case.
Brief survey of the early French literary movements, advanced composition, and study of practical idioms. Stresses oral and written reports on French literature.
6 Advanced French II (5) UC:CSU
Prerequisite: French 5 or equivalent.
Continues the study of French literary movements, advanced composition, and the use of practical idioms, includes oral and written reports and concentrates on developing translating skills.
8 Conversational French (2) RPT 3 UC:CSU
Prerequisite: French 3 or equivalent.
Provides opportunities for conversation on everyday topics, current events and cultural material.
Acceptable for French 10 AD UCLA
UC Limit: maximum units: 2 courses.

10 French Civilization (3) UC:CSU
Advisory: English 28.
