Course Objectives:
Fast Track to J2EE using Servlets, JSPs and JDBC is a five-day workshop geared towards experienced Java developers who need to gain the essential skills required to build and deploy robust, scaleable and secure business applications on the web using the J2EE development platform.

This course provides a thorough hands-on exploration of the key J2EE APIs, with a particular focus on Servlets, JSPs, JDBC, and EJBs and how to leverage the strength of each technology to build web applications that are robust, efficient, and maintainable. Java 2, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) is a powerful platform for building web applications. The J2EE platform offers all the advantages of developing in Java plus a comprehensive suite of server-side technologies.

This course tells you what you need to know to design and build your own web applications. You’ll learn the details of the key J2EE technologies and how to leverage the strengths of each, with special focus on Servlets and JSP. At the same time, you’ll be learning about the big picture of J2EE and how to design web applications that are robust, efficient, and maintainable. If you want to deliver an application on the web, you’ll find this course essential.

The course begins with a discussion of web application architecture. It then covers JDBC, Java’s database access technology. A major part of the course is spent on Servlets and JavaServer Pages (JSP). The course concludes with an introduction to Enterprise JavaBean technology. Throughout the course, students will create code for an online store.

Students will learn not only specific topics and APIs but also how to fit the pieces together into a complete application. This course can be run using Weblogic or the application server of your choice Working in a hands-on environment, students will design and deploy a multi-tiered, e-commerce web-based business application utilizing the core skills gained throughout this workshop. We’ll also provide comprehensive coverage of critical J2EE architecture and design issues, teaching students not only best practices, but also key mistakes to avoid.

Upon completion of this workshop students will be able to:
Thoroughly understand the J2EE architecture and Servlets, JSP and JDBC APIs, including when (and when not to) use them
Understand each core J2EE API independently, and how they function in a J2EE solution at each level of development
Understand how to combine the APIs together to solve practical J2EE development challenges
Explore EJB to an introductory level, and how the API works with the other J2EE components
Develop a practical robust e-commerce application for the J2EE
