Graduates will be eligible to apply for licensure as Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) and will be trained to provide therapeutic support to individuals and families in many different settings. Additional requirements include completion of 3,000 hours of post-masters clinical experience and passing the National Counselor Exam (NCE).
Graduates may be employed in a variety of community settings, including mental health clinics, community-based human service organizations, career counseling agencies, or in vocational/technical schools or colleges. Placement rates fluctuate due to economic changes and government funding of mental health programs.
Degree Requirements:
The Mount Mary College Master of Science in Community Counseling requires completion of 48 credits and a thesis or comprehensive examination. See curriculum. Students will complete 700 hours of clinical/internship experiences in selected community sites. Those interested in the program must have a bachelors degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and a minimum of 18 credits in the social sciences. Accreditation: The Master of Science in Community Counseling program at Mount Mary College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. In addition, the curriculum is consistent with standards set forth by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP). Though the program is not specifically CACREP accredited at this time, graduates meet licensure/certification accreditation standards in Wisconsin.
